Madam Enyonam Amafuga, Volta Regional Director of Education in her welcome address said that there is an increasing demand for education particularly, tertiary education in Ghana. This is due to the increasing awareness that tertiary education is key to better jobs, higher status, greater social and political influence, etc. She however, added that one of the key challenges of accessing tertiary education in Ghana is the ability to pay fees and that government alone cannot finance tertiary education. She also hinted that because most universities in Ghana do not have financial resources to offer scholarships to students the annual attrition rate (estimated at 15%) in private tertiary institutions is very high. She therefore encouraged all GES staff and teachers to take advantage of the scholarship award by enrolling at Kings University College and Liaoning University in China.
